What is the Words Challenge?
The Typing Words Challenge is a sprint-style test where the goal is to type a fixed number of words (default is 50) as quickly as possible. Unlike timed tests where you try to type as much as you can in a set time, here the finish line is fixed. This mode is perfect for measuring your "burst speed"â€â€Âhow fast you can type a short paragraph without fatigue setting in.
How to Play?
- Get Ready: The test loads with 50 words. Take a deep breath and position your fingers.
- Sprint: Start typing immediately. The timer starts counting up from 0 the moment you press the first key.
- Finish Strong: Keep typing until you complete the last word. The timer stops the moment the final character is entered.
- Check Your Speed: See how many seconds it took you to complete the challenge and your resulting WPM. Can you beat your personal best time?
How to Improve Sprint Speed?
To excel in the Words Challenge, focus on reading ahead. While your fingers are typing one word, your eyes should already be scanning the next. Minimize hand movement and keep a steady rhythm. This "look-ahead" technique is used by the world's fastest typists to achieve speeds over 150 WPM.
Burst Typing Techniques
Short sprints require a different approach than endurance typing:
- Explosive Starts: Position your fingers on the first word before you start the timer. The first 3-4 words should be instantaneous.
- Ignore Errors (Calculated Risk): In a pure speed sprint, stopping to backspace kills momentum. If you make a mistake on a short word, sometimes it's faster to keep going (depending on the penalty settings).
- Breathing Control: Hold a steady breath. Many people unknowingly hold their breath during sprints, which causes tension. Exhale to relax your shoulders.
